Target To Open Two Stores In Orange County This April

There will be grand opening ceremonies for two Target stores in California’s Orange County this April, including one in the City of Huntington Beach. The Costa Mesa shop was earlier a Ross Dress For Less location. On the other hand, the Huntington Beach store was a Stein Mart location. On April 03, 2022, Target will open both small-format shops.

The two stores in OC fall into Target’s small-format classification. These are likely to be spread over 15,000 sq. ft but usually average about 40,000 sq. ft. The big-box shops of Target average about 130,000 sq. ft.

Small-format shops offer accessories and apparel products for men and women, alongside groceries, home décor, tech accessories, cosmetics, and health products. The shops are usually situated in dense suburban and urban locations, plus on college campus areas where the organization fail to accommodate full-sized stores.

The retailer based in Minneapolis is seeking to fill an array of employment positions at its Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa locations, including security specialists and sales clerks. It did not specify the number of openings available, but potential candidates can check the positions on the website of Target.

In February 2022, Target stated that it would pay $300 million more for benefits and wages this year as labor competition becomes more intense. Target will keep $15 an hour as its lowermost starting wage, but a few new workers could get up to $24 per hour according to the local market and their jobs.

More Target Stores Are Imminent

The website of Target shows that a greater number of small-format shops will come to SoCal, although it is yet to post a specific timeline for their openings. Some of those locations will be as follows.

  • A store on La Brea Avenue in Inglewood that will span 34,000 sq. ft
  • A shop at Bickett Street in the City of Huntington Park that will span 54,000 sq. ft
  • A location at Dillon Street in LA that will spread over 17,400 sq. ft
  • A store at Victory Boulevard in LA that will span 76,000 sq. ft

Target started to launch small-format shops eight years ago. The downsized stores target customers who wish to avoid traveling far to reach a shop and moving carefully through a bigger location of the company.

COO and Vice President John Mulligan of Target talked about the company’s small-format shop concept two years ago. Mulligan told Target investors that the company developed a process in order to limit the store assortment to one place for every single neighborhood at scale. Mulligan also said that Target reoriented its supply chain in order to replenish the shops when the backroom area became smaller. Mulligan added that Target plans on opening around 30 small-format shops yearly over the coming years.

The small-format shops of Target are located throughout SoCal in locations such as Anaheim, Mission Viejo, Koreatown, Los Angeles, and Orange Burbank.

As per the company website, its revenue for the year 2021 was $106 billion, which marked a 35% increase from 2 years before.
