Huntington Beach To Host Youth America Grand Prix Regionals

The Huntington Beach High School theater hosts the audition of numerous ballet dancers in the last few days of January 2022 for the regionals of the Youth America Grand Prix. If they succeed in the event, they could be considered to be part of the world’s best dancers. The success would also open up a pathway to job offers and scholarships for them.

As for teacher April Wexelman, the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) is the world’s largest organization for ballet education. Wexelman works with that not-for-profit organization and its scholarship program, in addition to Dance Masters of America (DMA). Wexelman described it as the Olympic Games for young ballet dancers.

Silvia Snow is a first-time participant in the event. Snow sported a tiara as she saw the ballet competition with Amanda Cobb, her coach, at the San Clemente-based Ballet Academy & Movement.

Snow is getting ready to dance to the Sleeping Beauty piece entitled ‘Bluebird’ and is excited about her upcoming performance. The teenager has been a dancer for a long time now but is still unsure what she wishes to become as she ages. Nevertheless, she is sure about one thing: continue to dance.

When it comes to the dancing careers that the event can launch, Wexelman stated that the participants in the YAGP regionals are dancing in front of prominent ballet personalities. They must enter the 12 best dancers in their age group to progress to the YAGP finals in Tampa this year. The top talents from over 20 cities other than New York City and 10 international cities will compete at the YAGP finals later this year.
