Huntington Beach Native Pleaded Guilty For His Capitol Stunt

local man arrested for capitol riot involvement

Mark Simon from Huntington Beach filmed himself as he was getting into the Capitol building in the recent riot there. Simon was part of a court hearing in DC earlier in August 2021; court records demonstrate that he has accepted a plea agreement. This is to say, he has accepted responsibility for one misdemeanor-related count of picketing, parading, or demonstrating at the Capitol.

As per an agreement submitted to the US court, the charge that Simon accepted responsibility for carries six-month-long imprisonment as a possible penalty. Initially, Simon had faced three more charges associated with illegal activities on US Capitol grounds or getting into a restricted US building.

Huntington Beach Weekly could not reach Simon or the attorney that the court had appointed for him. The affidavit of an FBI official stated that a woman and Simon helped to storm the US Capitol building for Donald Trump, as seen in a recent video. Then, Simon was part of an FBI investigation into the so-called Capitol insurrection.

Law enforcement officers in DC aided their federal government counterparts in identifying Simon and called him a known Huntington Beach activist. As per an account submitted to the court, Simon shot himself on video as he was entering the building with a chorus of Trump supporters forcing their way into it. The video shows alarms sounding, broken glass on doors and US law enforcement trying to remove others from that area.

On December 07, 2021, there will be a sentencing hearing for Simon. In a previous hearing, a US prosecutor said that Simon’s girlfriend accompanied him to this building and that she could face charges. That said, court records do not indicate that the woman has been charged in association with the recent event at the Capitol.
